DUBAI: Sri Lanka’s global sensation Yohani de Silva and the legendary Indian playback singer, Srinivas were the Guests of Honour at a special networking breakfast event hosted by the Sri Lankan Business Council in Dubai (SLBC) recently to celebrate the 50th National Day of the United Arab Emirates.
Addressing the large gathering of SLBC members and their families at the outdoor event held at The Secret Garden of Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Dubai, Sri Lanka’s Consul General for Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Nalinda Wijerathna noted the uniqueness of the UAE, the astonishing progress made by the country in a short period of 50 years and its international standing as a multicultural nation that is home to people from over 200 nationalities. On behalf of the Sri Lankan government, the Consul General extended his heartiest congratulations to the visionary leadership of the UAE and its people on the occasion of their 50th National Day and wished them even greater success for the next 50 years.
The celebrations featured performances by a Sri Lankan cultural troupe and young Sri Lankan talents based in the UAE, along with Sri Lankan cuisine provided by leading Sri Lankan restaurants in Dubai – Thambapanni, the event’s main sponsor, as well as Thushanis’ and Chef Lanka.
