Meet the Willy Wonka of Newfoundland — originally from Sri Lanka

Newfoundland and Labrador:  Milinda is the owner of Chocolate de Champ, a small homemade chocolate business he runs out of his home in L’Anse au Loup, a community on Labrador’s southern coast.

Since moving to Labrador from his home in Sri Lanka in 2012, Milinda has been working full time in a bakery. He dedicates his time outside of work to crafting his unique and handmade chocolate designs and fulfilling his online orders.

And yes — the movie, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, did play a role in his sweet treat dreams.

He is in the early days of his business, with his first pop-up sale recently in Corner Brook. But Milinda has big plans for the future and hopes this will be the start of getting the name Chocolate de Champ around the province.

Chamira Milinda has a dream: to become the Willy Wonka of Newfoundland. Milinda, who grew up in Sri Lanka, learned to make chocolate in culinary school, and now has his own small business called Chocolate by Chamiria. His goodies look almost too good to eat…almost. See for yourself.
