COLOMBO: The Australian Government has officially opened applications for the Australia Awards Scholarships for the 2026 intake, offering Sri Lankans a transformative opportunity to pursue higher education at leading Australian institutions. These prestigious scholarships aim to develop future leaders who will contribute to Sri Lanka’s economic and social development upon their return.
Eligible candidates can apply for master’s degrees by coursework or research in priority fields such as Governance and Public Sector Management, Economic Development, Climate Resilience, Gender Equality, and Information and Communications Technology. The scholarships are designed to address Sri Lanka’s development challenges and foster enduring people-to-people links between the two nations.
The program offers comprehensive benefits, including full tuition fees, return air travel, living expenses, health cover, and academic support. Applicants from priority districts, women, and individuals with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply, with relaxed English language requirements during the initial application phase.
To be eligible, applicants must meet specific criteria, including relevant work experience, a bachelor’s degree equivalent to Australian standards, and English language proficiency. Successful candidates will be required to return to Sri Lanka for at least two years post-study to contribute to the country’s development.
Applications must be submitted online via the OASIS portal by 30 April 2025. Supporting documents, including academic transcripts, proof of citizenship, and employment letters, must also be provided. Shortlisted candidates will undergo an interview process, with final selections announced in late 2025.
