COLOMBO: Twenty six technical interns who received training opportunities in Japan franging from three to five years left for Japan on 16 September. Hideaki Mizukoshi, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, attended the ceremony held by Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment under the patronage of Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara to bid farewell to trainees and give them words of encouragement.
These trainees who are visiting Japan under the Technical Intern Training programme represent the construction and nursing services sectors. After completing their training period, they must return to Sri Lanka. They will then get the opportunity to start their own business in Sri Lanka or to be an expert in a relevant field. The core purpose of the Technical Intern Training program is to develop human resources in developing countries, so that trainees can acquire advanced skills, technology and knowledge in Japan and utilize them for economic and social development of their home countries. In his remarks, Ambassador Mizukoshi extended his warm congratulations to them for visiting Japan and obtaining a great opportunity to acquire excellent Japanese skills, technology and knowledge in this special year marking the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sri Lanka.
He mentioned that they would be able to add value to the development process of Sri Lanka through obtaining new employment opportunities and creating new businesses by utilizing their skills acquired in Japan after returning to Sri Lanka, especially, at a time when Sri Lanka is going through an unprecedented economic crisis.
He also hoped that they complete their training successfully and actively interact with the people of Japan so that Japanese people will gain a better understanding of Sri Lanka and its people and they will build bridges of friendship between our two countries that will last long after their stay in Japan and expand beyond their training areas.
