MELBOURNE: The paintings of renowned Sri Lankan artist Raja Segar have been recognised and accepted by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Melbourne, Australia, adding another feather to the cap of this celebrated cultural icon.
Raja Segar was honoured at a special event held in Melbourne. Picture shows Raja Segar with Wayne Crothers, senior Curator of the National Gallery of Victoria, Ajith Jayathilake, the architect of the event, Kithsiri Herath, Sri Lanka’s Consul General in Melbourne and Ms Sumita, the assistant to the Curator.
Segar’s paintings and sculptures have brought him global recognition, having been exhibited at galleries, exhibitions and events across Australia, England, India, Singapore, South Korea, and the UAE. Starting his professional life as an accountant, Segar’s profession took a 360 turn after he realised his true calling was elsewhere, and ended up in the world of abstract and figurative art. The Sri Lankan artist has held more than 20 one-man exhibitions to showcase his art pieces done mostly with his favourite medium of oil and water color.
The National Gallery of Victoria houses a whole world of international art including European, Asian, Oceanic and American art. The gallery has a total collection of over 75,000 works of art. The state of Victoria is home to a huge community of Sri Lankans and Australians of Sri Lankan origin.
