Renowned artist Raja Segar at World Art Dubai

DUBAI: Raja Segar, one of Sri Lanka’s finest contemporary artists, is participating in the prestigious World Art Dubai, an annual art retail fair that provides a platform for a unique fusion of art, entertainment and education, from 18-21 April.

Segar, who rose from a humble background to international stardom, has brought a range of special exhibits that reflect his incredible talents as a painter and sculptor to the international art exposition, which runs  at Dubai World Trade Centre. Art aficionados can view exhibits from the Segar Gallery at Stand A19.

Last year, Segar was the only artist from Sri Lanka to participate in the Abu Dhabi Culture Summit, the world’s first high-level summit that convenes leaders from the global arts, media, public policy, and technology arenas to identify ways in which culture can raise awareness, build bridges and promote positive change.

Segar’s paintings and sculptures have brought him global recognition, having been exhibited at galleries across Australia, England, Singapore and India. Starting his professional life as an accountant, Segar soon realized his calling was elsewhere, going on to indulge in his passion for drawing and ending up in the world of abstract and figurative art.

He entered the art scene by designing greetings cards that gave a Sri Lankan character, away from the Western look and feel of such cards in his time. Since then there was no looking back for the self-tutored artist.

The celebrated Sri Lankan artist has participated in several international exhibitions and held more than 20 one-man exhibitions to showcase his art pieces done mostly with his favourite medium oil and water color. The international exhibitions in which he has previously participated were the SAARC Artist event in 2002 in India, Gallery 202 in England in 1991, the Global Icon exhibition in Singapore in 2014, the Culture Summit in Abu Dhabi in 2017, as well as  representing Sri Lanka in the 14th  Gongju International Art Festival (GIAF) in  2017 in South Korea.
