Sri Lanka establishes diplomatic relations with Barbados

NEW YORK, June 2019: Sri Lanka and Barbados have established diplomatic relations with effect from 28th June 2019, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

The agreement establishing diplomatic ties between the two countries was signed by Dr. Amrith Rohan Perera, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations and  Ms. H. Elizabeth Thompson, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Barbados to the United Nations on 28th June 2019 in New York

The establishment of diplomatic ties between Sri Lanka and Barbados would enhance the existing friendly relations and cooperation in the political, socio-economic and cultural fields for the mutual benefit of the two countries, the statement added.
