DUBAI: With thousands of visitors set to make a beeline to INDEX next week, Sri Lankan artist Mohamed Wadood plans to showcase his paintings at the Middle East’s largest interiors exhibition, as beautiful accessories for home décor.
Wadood will be participating at INDEX as part of Art4You Gallery, which supports and promotes the talents of multicultural artists in the region.

INDEX runs from 16-18 September at Sheikh Saeed Halls 1, 2, & 3 at Dubai World Trade Centre under the theme ‘East Meets West’, taking visitors on a journey from east to west in celebration of ‘The Silk Road’ and the myriad of colours and patterns associated with this historical trade route. The show will focus on individual designs and value driven products from Asia, alongside premium products from Europe.
Among the exhibits of the talented Sri Lankan artist are ‘Visibility’ and ‘Why’ done in oil on canvas, and ‘Poverty and ‘Dance’ done with water-based powder colour on paper. Another of the exhibit is titled ‘Imad’s Evening’, a view of a boy who admires the scene through the window of his room, and painted with acrylic on canvas. You can see Wadood’s paintings at INDEX at Art 4You Gallery located in Stand No. SS1G141.
Commenting on his participation, Wadood said: “As INDEX is the region’s most popular platform for showcasing high quality interior designing and decoration, I wanted to make use of this opportunity to present my pieces to a diverse audience of art and interior design enthusiasts. Paintings are the most attractive part of interior decoration, and since I am able to create paintings in various styles, I hope to meet exhibition visitors and explain to them how my art could help put that aesthetic touch to interior spaces.”
Wadood, a professional Quantity Surveyor based in Dubai, took a fancy to art in 1967, and from 1970 onwards began devoting some of his valuable time to developing his talent in art and thus made it his hobby, drawing portraits, sketches, modern art, sceneries and cartoons using pencil, charcoal, watercolors and other basic tools. Since 2010, he has been continuing to draw with oil and acrylic paints.

His high quality work won official recognition when he won the First Prize in three art competitions for the public conducted by the Environment Department of Dubai Municipality to mark “World Wetland Day” in 2012, “Car Free Day” in 2016 and “Go Wild Dubai” in 2017.
His artistic ability reached a milestone when he was awarded a prize for an art titled “Creativity by Reading” conducted by Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein Cultural Centre, Dubai in 2017.
Wadood has participated in joint exhibitions conducted by the Knowledge department of Dubai Municipality for the last four consecutive years, and earlier this year, participated in the international art fair, World Art Dubai.
