OSLO, October 2019: The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Oslo together with Poland’s flag carrier LOT Polish Airlines celebrated the strategic initiative by LOT to launch direct flights from Warsaw to Colombo. LOT will fly seasonally three times a week from November to March on its modern fleet of Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
The event was attended by diplomats, corporate partners, members of the travel industry and social influencers from the two countries. Speaking on the occasion, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Norway, Arusha Cooray mentioned that this reinforced the strong and enduring relationship, between Sri Lanka and Poland, which spanned over 60 years.
She further stated that the introduction of this direct route was expected to increase the flow of tourists and business passengers, and strengthen economic cooperation including trade, investment, finance, educational and cultural linkages between Sri Lanka and Poland.
The Ambassador for Poland Iwona Woicka-Zulowska stated that the launch of this flight would lead to an increased flow of tourists to Sri Lanka from Poland and hoped that it would lead to an increased flow of passengers from Sri Lanka to Poland as well.
The first take-off is scheduled for November 3 2019. The flights will be operated until March 28, 2020 three times a week, according to the following schedule: LO 069 WAW-CMB 15:35-05:15(+1) Wednesdays, Fridays, Sundays and LO 070 CMB-WAW 08:05 – 14:00 Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays. The convenient schedule will guarantee the shortest travel to Sri Lanka to passengers not only from Poland but also from across many other European countries.
Sales Manager, Gonen Butel gave a presentation highlighting the advantages of LOT, the direct route from Warsaw to Colombo, and flights from Oslo to Colombo, as a part of this new service.
The evening featured a Sri Lankan cultural performance and Sri Lankan food to give guests a taste of Sri Lanka.
Earlier, LOT said in a statement that it decided to start a regular connection to Sri Lanka due to the high tourism potential with more than 1.8 million passengers travelling between Europe and Sri Lanka every year. With the new series of seasonal flights, Colombo becomes the sixth Asian long-haul destination in the growing network of LOT and the first regular seasonal winter service opened for Polish tourists seeking an exotic winter vacation.
